The Effect of The Age of Admission to The Students’ Initial Literacy Achievement
Abstract :
In this study, it is aimed to determine the effect of the age of admission to the students’ initial literacy achievement. The study is carried out on 432 students in the two different branches of a five different elementary school by the “selected purposive sampling technique” in Kayapınar, the center district of Diyarbakir province. In this descriptive study, the data required is collected from “student information forms”, “reading and writing scales” and “reading comprehension test.” In the analyzing of data, “t-test” and “one way ANOVA” are used.The results of the study can be summarized as following: (1) The students’ reading achievement between 60-66 months old are lower than the students reading achievement who are between 67-72 months old and 73 months and older. (2) The students’ writing achievement who are 73 months and older is higher than the students’ writing achievement who are between 60-66 months old. (3) The students’ reading comprehension achievement between 60-66 months old are lower than the students reading comprehension achievement who are between 67-72 months old and 73 months and older. (4) There isn’t a significant difference in reading, writing and reading comprehension achievement between genders. (5) The students having pre- school education are more successful than the students having not pre- school education in reading, writing and reading comprehension.
