Grade 6, 7 and 8 Students’ Misconceptions about Decimal Fractions and their Reasons
Abstract :
The aim of the present study is to identify kinds and reasons of grade 6, 7 and 8 students’ misconceptions about decimal fractions, to analyze the relationships between different kinds of misconceptions, also to compare different grade students’ performances in subject misconceptions. This study is a descriptive qualitative study and case study was used in the study. The sample of the study is composed of 269 students who have been attending a primary school in 2012-2013 academic years in Ordu. The data collection tool of the study consisting of fourteen questions was developed by the researcher and the reliability coefficient was calculated as .87 for this tool. By the results of the study; the students’ rate of success was calculated as 40% for the test. The results of the study make inferences and suggestions for the new studies by the students’ answers including several different misconceptions.
