  • Abstract
    The study aims to investigate science teacher candidates’ levels in designing experiments on harms of smoking based on 5E and to determine their opinions about designing experiments. For this purpose, this study was carried out with 116 science teachers candidates based on the case study method. In the study, the data were collected with Evaluation form for designing experiments based on 5E and Determine the opinions of prospective teachers form created by the researcher. The data which was obtained from the form used to determine science teacher candidates’ levels in designing experiments was evaluated with average scores and percentages with excerpts from teacher candidates’ answers. The opinions of teacher candidates decoded by content analysis of the data obtained from open-ended questions and also again excerpts from teacher candidates’ answers were given. The results of the study show that the teacher candidates were successful in the beginning when designing experiments based on the 5E and their lowest rating was in the process of the evaluation. The total average rating based on the form was 80% and the average of these ratings on teachers showed that they made a successful experimental design. Meanwhile, the experiment changed the perspectives of the teacher candidates and they expressed that the advantage of this design would lead to many positive directions for them when they become teachers.
