The purpose of this study was to explore secondary school students’ metaphors related to environmental education. The study was conducted with respect to qualitative phenomenological research design. The working group of the study was comprised of 192 secondary school students enrolled in three different schools located in the countryside of Adıyaman. Twenty forms were eliminated and they were not included in the analysis since they were not able to satisfy the required conditions. Students were asked to fill in the forms that include such questions as “I think environmental education is as….., because…..”. Data collected by these forms were analysed through descriptives and percentages. According to the findings, students put forward totally 71 metaphors. These metaphors were classified in 11 different categories according to their common features. Findings in the study also showed that students focused on the metaphors offering and explaining the term of “nature” rather than those of regarding the term of “environmental education”.
