Title Of Article :
Predictive Effects of Eighth Grade Students’ Self-regulation Strategies and Motivations on Their Math Success
Abstract :
Self-regulation and motivation are important concepts on students’ regulation of their own learning process. This study was conducted to determine the predictive power of eighth grade students’ mathematical self-regulation strategies and motivations on their math success. The scale that was developed by Pintrich, Smith, Garcia McKeachie (1991) and translated into Turkish by Büyüköztürk, Akgün, Özkahveci Demirel (2004) was applied to collect the data. The sample of the study is a total of 158 secondary school students from a public school in Samsun. The data was analysed by descriptive and regression analysis. As a result of study, it was seen that the self- regulation strategies and motivation levels of secondary school students are intermediate. Also self-regulation strategies and motivation are separately and together significiant predictives of students’ math success.
