Reward and Punishment Perceptions of Children with the Opinions of Teachers about Discipline
Abstract :
The literature is based on discipline and punishment stirred frequently and often used to the reward-punishment strategy for unwanted behavior by teachers. This research aimed to determine what their views on the discipline of the teachers and perception of children about reward- punishment. Case studies method of qualitative research design was used in this research. Easily accessible sampling method of purposeful sampling was selected. The study group of this research consisted from 22 preschool teachers working in public primary schools in Ankara and 69 preschool children ongoing to these schools. Semi-structured interview children and teacher forms were used in the collection of data. Research data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative analysis technique. The findings from this study indicated that the rewards were stressed more materialistic by children. The second type punishment is noteworthy that the was more expressed by the children. Used of reward and punishment methods by teachers as well as provided discipline by defining the class rules without involving children had shown that teacher- centered approach of strict discipline were effective.
