Abstract :
Denizli is the biggest city of the Aegean region after the city of Izmir.Industrialization period of the city has continued rapidly. People who came from rural, Denizli’s districts and other provinces have immigrated to city. There is no district has a population more than 20.000 makes the Denizli as an attraction center. Especially after the year of 1980 accelerated migration fact not only makes Denizli enlarged as horizontal, but also brought some problems together. These problems were infrastructure, education, and road, insufficiency of health services and most importantly like other cities in our country shanty houses problems. There is also rapid construction process along the Ankara highway and especially hill-like areas which located in north-east. The areas of Sevindik, Karşıyaka, Esentepe, Fatih, and Dokuzkavaklar quarters were mostly included unplanned settlements and squatter. These unhealthy residences, which are not suited to the modern cities of 21st century, eliminated by the Denizli Municipality with the “Urban Transformation Project”. Squatters nationalized and new residences are given in return to the owners of shanty houses. In this manner the citizens who live in shanty houses will reach modern residences and this leads to not only elimination of the vision and environment pollution, but also new usage areas allocated to the municipality. These applications should be supported by the new projects and it would continue until all the shanty houses eliminated. Also the works which blockthe shanty houses should be performed with parallel to urban transformation projects.
