Village Institutes where product based education was aimed, the principle of work was accepted as the basic and ‘on-the-job learning’ existed as a must, were among those important educational institutions of their period having acted with abovementioned principles in the teaching of cultural courses as well as agricultural and technical courses. For Geography courses which had an important place among cultural courses in Village Institutes, an application based teaching programme with visual elements preferred and observation ability aimed to be developed, was used in order to provide a permanent and efficient learning. Teaching material which had an important role in the application of such a teaching programme was ‘textbook’. From this point of view, in this study it is aimed to investigate the textbooks used in Village Institutes as well as evaluating visual elements of those textbooks by means of their role of making teaching more efficient and making a judgement whether those elements were used suitably for their purposes in the textbooks. As a result of the study in which document investigation method has been used and four textbooks has been chosen randomly among those used in Geography courses of Village Institutes, it is concluded that those textbooks, prepared between 1945 and 1950, are quite satisfactory by means of visual elements.
