Abstract :

In the past, the cities which developed more under the influence of the environmental conditions, nowadays they are developing more quickly thanks to the industrial and commercial activities and reaching enormous size. The majority of these settlements are developing thanks to the advantages of the location in which they settle. As a result the settlements that settle on the old transport and trade routes maintain their importance, unless there is a grade change and in time and they expand their settlements and population with different functional properties. Opposite of this is also possible.Nizip, which had a prominent position on the silk road, has increased its importance more with the effect of the E-90 into-city highway. Being on the transportation route not only has provided it services areas and restaurants and repairing workshops but also it has prepared a reason to expand the city during the highway. Having favorable agriculture areas on the neighborhood has made the products such as olive’s and pistachios’ agriculture important. As it is known, agriculture constitutes the Fundamentals of industrial activities fort he settlement of most cities.Agro- based industry activities come into prominence around the settlements where agriculture is very intensive. Also in Nizip city, especially olive oil factories and olive, pistachios and cotton based industrial activities indicate advance.Expanding of the city towards the agriculture fields may cause reduction in agricultural production and decline the rate of agro-based industrial activity capacity or bring about closing some of them in the future with this occupation into agricultural fields.In this study it has been investigated the importance of Nizip city in historical process, the city’ spatial development and transport and the importance of industrial activities. it has been focused on the agricultural areas, environmental and economic problems that occur with narrowing of agricultural areas.
