Geography teachers views about alternative assessment and evaluation techniques: usage levels, problems and limitations
Abstract :
The aim of this study is to determine the level of use of alternative techniques for measurement and assessment of geography teachers. Besides, benefits and challenges encountered by teachers and their ideas about the inservice training are determined. Survey method is used in the research. The research is conducted with 108 geography teachers working in Trabzon, Giresun, Ordu and Rize. The questionnaire, developed by Cepni et all. (2011) to determine the needs of teachers for alternative measurement and assessment, is applied as data collection tool. Data were analyzed by using SPSS 16 Windows packet program. At the end of the research it is found that teachers use traditional techniques more than alternative measurement and assessment techniques. Some suggestions are offered based on these results.
