Abstract :
Afyonkarahisar is a province, that has the importance for Turkey and worldwide by marble potential. This potential can be evaluated as required, will contribute to both the region and the country’s economy. Afyonkarahisar and especially district Iscehisar come into prominence in the marble sector and this is undoubtedly closely related to the geological structure of the area. The elements such as being favorable in terms of geological structure, close location to raw materials the development in location of the marble quarries and the development of the transportation network in the county has influenced the developmant of the marble industry. Also the proximity of Iscehisar to the center of Afyonkarahisar has enabled to provide easy Access to the neden labor fort he marble industry. In physical and human environmental studies different methods are used. In this study, in which the environmental problems in Iscehisar caused by the marbel industry are discussed, remote sensing Geographic Information System (GIS) and field observations methods have been utilized. Marble factories located intensively in the district Iscehisar brought about inaccurate land use, noise and visual pollution and the solid waste problems in the county. To eliminate those environmental problem in Iscehisar caused by the marble industry, the geographical conditions of the area should be investigated in all aspects. Proper plannings consonant with the geographical conditions are necessary in order to reduce environmental problems. In this study the existing marble industry in the district is analyzed and planning recommendations about minimizing the damege to the environment are tried to develop.
