Abstract :
Tourism forms emerged as a result of the mutual interaction of human and physical geographical factors. The primary elements of tourism are geographical characteristics and attractions that draw attention of tourists. Besides, in a broad sense, transportation and accommodation facilities form the basis of development in tourism. Coastal resources, natural habitats, historic areas, climatic resources and even cultural diversity are the essential attractions which include a wide variety of touristic activities and form different types. In recent years, people instead of having a holiday in great hotels or unnatural environments, they have preferred to have a holiday in more natural environments, by consuming more healthy foods and experiencing a more calm resting and these preferences introduce the “cittaslow” and “slow tourism”. Seferihisar is the first slow city of Türkiye and now the number of these kind of cities have raised to eleven. This article gives information on the emergence of slow city and slow tourism concepts and their characteristics. It also explains the place of slow cities in tourism geography and their development in Türkiye.
