Abstract
The aim of this research was to investigate whether secondary school students’ mathematics self-efficacy perceptions, self-regulation skills, academic motivation levels and the type of school students attend predict 9th grade mathematics achievement or not. Model used for this research was a relational survey model and the sample of this research consisted of 416 students attending to various schools having different programs in 2012-2013 academic year spring semester. Data collected through self-regulation strategies dimension of The Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire, The Scale of Self-Efficacy Perception for Mathematics and Academic Motivation Scale. Mathematics achievement of students was measured by an achievement test developed by the researchers. The data were analyzed using multiple regression analysis. According to the results of the analysis, having higher mathematics self-efficacy perception, studying at Science High School and Anatolian High School rather than studying at Vocational High School were an advantage in order to be successful at mathematics. Based on the findings, implications and suggestions were presented in the study.
