Title Of Article :
Population characteristics of Squalius cephalus in Lake Tödürge (Sivas)
Abstract :
In present research, sex composition, age, length and weight distributions, growth performance in length and weight, relation between length-weight, condition factor and smallest prey size of chub, Squalius cephalus population living in Lake Tödürge have been determined. A total of 466 individuals were caught between April-November 1997. Sex ratio (female:male) of population which consisting of seven age groups was calculated as 1.00:0.25 (373 females, 93 males). III age group in chub population of Lake Tödürge was dominant with 33.9%. Fork length and body weight values were ranged between 53 mm and 279 mm, 1.5 g and 320.8 g, respectively. 35.7% of female individuals and 60.2% of males were included in 120-150 mm fork length group. Males with 20-40 g body weight accounted for 59.1% of population. Mean values fork length and body weight of females were bigger than males in all age groups (except for I and V ages). It is determined that both the female and male individuals were determined to follow izometric growth. Length-weight equation was constituted as W= 0.0106 L3.0884 for all specimens. Condition factors of the specimens investigated were calculated between 0.59 and 1.70. Prohibition of fishing of chub individuals smaller than 18 cm (fork length) in Lake Tödürge was recommended..
