Abstract :
Feeding biology of 249 tench (Tinca tinca) specimens varied between 0-VI years of age groups caught in Hirfanlı Dam Lake was investigated. The Geometric Index of Importance (GII) was used to determine food preferences of Tinca tinca. The monthly, seasonal and annual dependent preference of food of Tinca tinca were also investigated. Zooplanktonic (Copepoda, Rotifera, Cladocera, Ostracoda, Ephippium) and benthic (Chironomus, Oligochaeta, Gastropoda, Corethra, Gammarus) organisms along with extremities of these organisms, phytoplanktonic organisms (Bacillariophyta, Cyanophyta, Chlorophyta, Pyrrophyta, Euglenophyta), mud, detritus and fish eggs were determined in observed in the alimentary canal of fish. In this study algae were determined to be the mostconsiderable food types which is followed by zooplanktonic and bentic organisms. 60 food items (44 organisms were plants and 16 were animals) were found in the alimentary canal of Tinca tinca. It was found the most feeding was occured in summer, fall, winter and spring, respectively. It was also found that the number of individuals with filled alimentary canal was higher in summer and fall months.
