Title Of Article :
The distribution and density of external and internal taste buds in Oscar Fish (Astronotus ocellatus)
Abstract :
In this study, it was aimed to describe some morphometric parameters about the size, distribution and density of the internal and external taste buds of astronaut fish, Astronotus ocellatus. The tissue samples dissected from the different parts of the skin (the lower and upper lips, forehead, gular part, operculum and lateral line); the fins (dorsal, caudal, anal, ventral and pectoral); the tongue and palate of the six adult specimens were investigated histologically. When compared to other regions, the taste buds of the tongue, upper and lower lips were noted as more intensive, respectively. Quantitative studies exhibited that, the largest buds were located in lower lip; however, the average thickness of the epithelium was highest in the upper lip. Statistical data were also showed that the buds are more intensively located in internal parts than internal ones.
