Title Of Article :
A preliminary taxonomical investigation on the Oligochaeta (Annelida) fauna of Tigris River (Turkey)
Abstract :
The knowledge of the Oligochaeta fauna is still very limited in some parts, particularly in the eastern part of Turkey. Tigris River has been always an important stream through history of mankind and was one of the main sources for the ancient Mesopotamian civilizations. Tigris River is approximately 1900 km long, rising in the Taurus Mountains of eastern Turkey about 25 km southeast of the city of Elazığ. Macrozoobenthic aquatic fauna of this river could not be investigated because of geographical and morphological conditions. In this study, it is aimed to close the gap of studies of Oligochaetes in the remaining part of Turkey of Tigris River and to make a preliminary study that will form the basis for further studies. As a result of the study, a total of 25 taxa was determined, comprising 19 taxa from Naididae (13 from Naidinae, 6 taxa from Tubificinae) and 6 taxa from Enchytraeidae. There aren’t any studies based on determination of Oligochaeta fauna of Tigris River (Turkey). Therefore all taxa identified for the region have been recorded for the first time.
