Abstract :
Aim: The aim of this study was to assess the intensity and management of postoperative pain following craniotomy during the early postoperative period.Material and Methods: After ethical committee approval, we retrospectively reviewed the charts of patients who underwent a craniotomy between 2009- 2011. We reviewed the charts of 176 patients and 146 of them were included in the study..Results: There was a statistically significant relationship between postoperative VAS-VRS scores and the level of postoperative analgesic requirements of the patients (p 0,05). There was also a strong relationship between craniotomy location (supratentorial- infratentorial) and the level of the postoperative analgesic requirements of the patients (p 0,01). There was a strong relationship between the gender of the patients and postoperative analgesic requirements (p 0,01).Conclusion: According to the results of our study, we think that craniotomy causes mild postoperative pain, and that women are more sensitive to this type of pain. In addition, the pain following craniotomy depends on the location (supratentorial-infratentorial) of the surgery
