Abstract :
Aim: To evaluate the clinical findings and treatment results of our anterior herpetic uveitis cases.Materials and Methods: Clinical data of 21 patients were evaluated retrospectively. These patients were followed-up in our clinic with a diagnosis of herpetic anterior uveitis in the period between 2010–2012. The diagnosis of herpetic anterior uveitis was established clinically. All patients underwent a complete general systemic examination, visual acuity testing, slit lamp biomicroscopic examination, intraocular pressure measurement, and fundus examination. Results: The mean age of the 7 female and 14 male patients was 48.4 ± 15 years. The average follow-up period was 12 ± 3.6 months. We observed keratic precipitates in 11 patients, epithelial keratitis in 6, corneal scar in 9, decreased corneal sensitivity in 2, endotheliitis in 2, segmental iris atrophy in 7, posterior synechia in 9, intraocular pressure elevation in 8, and vesicular skin lesions in the frontal region in 2. All patients were treated with topical steroids and oral acyclovir. After the treatment, the visual acuity of the patients increased on an average of 3.2 times according to the Snellen chart. After the treatment, all patients were kept under control with regard to their intraocular pressure. Throughout the follow-up period, recurrence was observed in 8 patients. Conclusion: In herpetic anterior uveitis cases, diagnosis can be performed clinically. Taking into consideration herpetic anterior uveitis in differential diagnosis is highly important in terms of prognosis and prevention of possible complications.
