Title Of Article :
WOMEN IN INTERNATIONAL POLITICS AND DECISION-MAKING MECHANISMS
Abstract :
Women’s representation or underrepresentation in international politics and decision-making mechanisms indicate major problems concerning the social structures of those societies as well as the functioning of international relations. In the article first of all, some of the core concepts, processes and structures will be overviewed. In addition, women’s place and role in international politics and decision-making mechanisms will be evaluated in the light of gender indicators. Women’s underrepresentation in international politics and decision-making mechanisms means more than a merely quantitative representation and participation problem. It is vital to sustain women’s concerns and priorities both in public and private spheres not only on the basis of the interests of men, but also taking into account the interests of women. Accordingly the article explores how the economic, political and social structures functioning on the basis of gender discrimination, still lead women’s underrepresentation in international politics and decision-making mechanisms in the 2000s.
