Abstract :
This study seeks an answer for the question whether framing migration as a security subject is a new experience in Europe and a new phase of the European migration history in the context of the Europe’s post war migration experience. The transformation of migration into a security subject is discussed in a perspective of its’ parallel and distinctive features with the supranationalism process of migration in Europe. By taking securitization as a theoretical base, prominent remarks were presented with the background of Common European Migration Policy and phases of post-war migration history in Europe. Migration is one of the securitization subjects which was cited as a case by the Copenhagen School. It has evolved both to an important agenda item and also a securitization subject in contemporary Europe, indeed. Hence, Europeanization of migration and its’ transformation to a securitization subject might be seen as a new experience in Europe and a new phase of European migration history. However, it is worth to note that this is an outcome of a process and it didn’t crop up suddenly. In addition Europe’s own internal dynamics and even colonial links has been serving as a background within this securitization process.
