A Qualitative Study on Personal Development of Teacher Qualification with Creative Drama Method
Abstract :
In this study, it was aimed to determine how the creative drama affected the classroom teacher candidates in bringing awareness for providing the personal development that is the sub-area of general qualifications of teaching profession. In this way, the creative drama courses have been carried out for the sub-area of providing personal development with thirty one classroom teacher candidates for twenty one hours in total. In the study, qualitative research methods were used. The data collection tools of the study consist of the written products, the interviews and diaries which the participants have revealed in the process. At the end of the content analysis, two themes emerged. These themes can be listed as “Approaches to Teaching Profession” and “Awareness for Importance of Teachers’ Personal Development”. Teacher candidates have been closer emotionally in this process. They have stated that seeing the problems which they would face up without beginning the service through animations, has provided to find solutions and to be ready. They also have put forward an idea on the subject about the things which they could do when they would be both a teacher and a teacher candidate in order to provide their personal development after realizing that the personal development is important for a teacher. Based on this, it can be said that courses replaced in the process of teacher training have to include both teacher candidates’ problems, which they may encounter when they will become teacher, and the proposed solutions of problems.
