Relationship Between Psychological Well-Being Of Undergraduate Students’ and University Entrance Examination and Some Other Variables
Abstract :
The general purpose of the study is to determine the level of Psychological Well-Being (PWB) of the undergraduate students and to define whether this level changes according to various demographical variables. Descriptive and correlational model was used in this study. The sample of the study was consisted of 589 students who entered the undergraduate programs of one of Aegean University in 2012-2013 academic years. The score which the 1st grade and prep school students got from the whole PWB scale corresponds to the level of “partly agree”. While the highest score the students got in the PWB sub-dimensions was “relationships with others” while the lowest one was “autonomy”. When the PWB levels of the students were compared according to various demographical variables, it was seen that they didn’t change/vary according to the students’ gender, faculties were attending in the university, fields they were being educated in (verbal, quantitative, equal weight), affiliation in a social club in the university and monthly incomes. It was found that the PWB levels of the undergraduate students who stayed with their families were higher when compared to the ones stayed in private dorms. It was found that the PWBs of the students who took parts in five or more events were higher compared to the ones who took parts in one, two and three events. It was found that there were positive significant low level correlation between monthly income and autonomy; between their scores from the exam of entering university and their goal of life.
