The Evaluation of Education System from the Perspective of Critical Pedagogy
Abstract :
The aim of this study is to identify what teachers think about the education system from the critical pedagogy perspective. This study which is a qualitative research and designed with survey method was carried out through the method of individual interview as a data collection technique. Data were collected through semi-structured interview forms. The study group was determined through maximum variety sampling method and 10 teachers who are members of different education unions and 5 (four) teachers who aren’t members of any education union working in Manisa were chosen and views of 15 teachers were received. Analyses of the data were made through content analysis techniques with the help of the Nvivo 10 software. As a result of the study, although there have been differences of opinions in the context of education union, teachers mostly agreed on the issue that the education system is away from being effective on such practices as being democratic, providing social justice, being objective and avoiding of being ideological, education of emancipated and critical individuals and transforming society. Therefore, we can assert that the current education system and schools are far away from the pluralistic, critical, emancipative, democratic, fair and transformative roles anticipated from critical pedagogy.
