Evaluation of an Active Learning based TÜBİTAK-4004 Project on Heritage and Protection
Abstract :
The aim of this study is to share the findings of a TUBİTAK 4004 Science and Society Project titled as “I am an explorer and I am exploring my town”. The aim of the project was, to raise awareness about the values of cultural environment by providing scientific point of view to students. The target group consists of the 75 students from 5th and 6th grade students in Tarsus, county of Mersin. The project involved 3 periods and in each period, there were 25 students from different schools. The activities were designed based on active learning principles. One pre-test and two post- tests, one of which was at the end of the activities and the other was after a month, were applied for evaluation of the activities. In the pre-test and post-tests the same multiple-choice exam was applied to evaluate the outcomes of the project. SPSS software is used to evaluate the results. In this context, this study has four main parts in generally. The first part presents the development of active learning phenomenon; the second part includes Project design and the content; the third part presents the findings of the project and the conclusion includes evaluations and proposals for similar studies.
