Cyber Loafing Behaviour of School Administrators
Abstract :
Like in every space in life, use of computer, smart phones and the Internet technologies has increased in organizations. Cyber loafing is possible to be described as a worker’s personal use of computer and smart phones via workplace Internet connection. The purpose of this study is to specify the types of cyber loafing they use in the workplaces, identify the frequency of cyber loafing behavior and determine whether the frequency of cyber loafing depends on demographical variables of school administrators employed in Giresun (downtown only) elementary and secondary schools. The working group of the study includes 104 school administrators employed in elementary and secondary state schools in Giresun. The results show that the score given to unimportant cyber loafing behavior of the administrators is higher than the important ones. The study points out that cyber loafing behavior of the administrators are not affected by gender and the type of school; however, year of experience has an effect on the behavior in question. The more time the school administrators spend on using Internet and computer for personal purposes, important and unimportant cyber loafing behavior increases. When it comes to study the average of the answers to the questions, it is found out that school administrators have scored most for the option ‘to join social networks (Facebook, Twitter etc.), and the least for the option ‘for fun and spend some free time’.
