The Role of Human Values in Predicting Perception of Self-Efficacy and Use of Cognitive Strategies among Middle School Students
Abstract :
The purpose of this study was to examine the role of human values in predicting perception of self-efficacy and use of cognitive strategies among middle school students. The participants were fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grade 318 students; 192 female (60.4%), 126 male (39.6%) attending public middle schools in Denizli in 2012-2013 academic year. In the study, human values were measured with Moral Maturity Scale, which was developed by Dilmaç and Kulaksızoğlu (1999), perception of self-efficacy and use of cognitive strategies was measured with Self-Efficacy Scale and Use of Cognitive Strategies Scale developed by Pintrich and De Groot (1990) and adapted by Üredi (2005). Data analysis were conducted with SPSS 16.0 statistical package program in .01 significance level. Simple linear regression analysis used to explore the predictive value of human values for perception of self-efficacy and use of cognitive strategies indicated that human values in predicting perception of self-efficacy and use of cognitive strategies among middle school students significantly.
