Abstract :
The main purpose of this study is determining high school students’ awareness of Radon gas with respect to its environmental effect. Another aim is to show the relation between the courses that they have taken in high school about subject matter and their level of consciousness by determining their acquisition. In this study, survey method has been used as quantitative method. Participants are chosen from first and last year students of high school to determine the change throughout education process. Therefore this study would be considered cross-sectional survey. Also science curriculum of class levels with regard to science courses have been analyzed and sources have been scanned. Sample of the study constitutes of 554 students (278 boys, 276 girls) from the first and the last year of high school chosen arbitrarily from three different types of school (Business High School, Anatolian High School, Science High School). Radon Awareness Survey (RAS) has been used to collect data. RAS designed by the authors within consideration the relating literature. As RAS supply discontinuous data, while analyzing data, chi-square, frequency and percent value have been used. It has been found out that awareness of students about Radon is quite low. %55 of high school students declare that they had never heard about Radon. Rational differences between these groups have been found. Students from the last year of their high school education tend to know more about Radon.
