Abstract :
The objective of this study was to determine variables such as teacher participation in school management and autonomy, teacher-related factors affecting school climate, teacher shortage, teacher morale and percentage of certified teachers in the school according to which Shanghai-China is the most successful country and Turkey is ranked in the middle whereas Peru is ranked last PISA 2012. In this context, the study was designed via a relational survey method. Research data were obtained from the OECD PISA 2012 database. Analysis of data was carried out via discriminant analysis. According to the results, it is understood that variables such as teacher participation in school management and autonomy, teacher-related factors affecting school climate and percentage of certified teachers have significant impacts on the separation of groups. On the other hand, it seems that teacher shortage and morale have no significant effects on grouping variables. It is understood that the independent variable that most contributes to the accurate classification of countries is teacher participation in school management (.861). This variable is followed respectively by teacher participation in autonomy (-.590), teacher-related factors affecting school climate (.120) and finally percentage of certified teachers. The percentage of accurate classification of discriminant function is 66.9 %. Based on the results, it is understood that the factors related to teachers is an important distinguishing factor for the correct classification of schools by countries. We think that the highest contribution to the function of two variables is due to teachers participation to decisions regarding school management and autonomy and thus the importance of teacher participation in decision making process is understood.
