Abstract :
The aim of this study is to examine primary pre-service teachers’ epistemological beliefs and pseudoscientific beliefs. The descriptive survey method was used in the research. Totally 377 (267 female, 109 male, 1 no response) pre-service teachers participated the study. Epistemological beliefs were assessed with The Epistemological Belief Questionnaire and pseudoscientific beliefs were assessed with The Nature of Science Survey. The multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) revealed that there is a significant difference in pre-service teachers’ beliefs by grade whereas there is no significant difference in pre-service teachers’ beliefs by gender and grade-gender interaction. The one way analysis of variance (ANOVA) indicated that junior students had more sophisticated beliefs in justification of knowledge and more knowledgeable on scientific method than senior students, favoring junior students. In addition, junior students had more sophisticated beliefs in development of knowledge than freshman, sophomore, and senior students, favoring junior students. In light of the results, implications and suggestions were given in the end.
