The Story of Joseph and Zulaika narrated by Ibn-i Abbas
Abstract :
The story of Joseph and Zulaika is a work that attracted considerable interest in all the nations of the world by taking its sources from the Holy Books (Torah, Bible, Koran), passing between generations orally or in writing and held up as a lesson from it. The story of Joseph and Zulaika is found not only among the Muslim Turks but is well respected among the Arab and Persian nations. The Joseph and Zulaika stories written in Arab and Persian literature are in prose and verse forms as well as stories written in Turkish literature. There are many writings of Joseph and Zulaika stories in Turkish Literature between the 13th and the 20th centuries. The first stories of Joseph and Zulaika were written in quatrain prosody but in the following period they were written in verse prosody. In our article we will focus on the Joseph and Zulaika Story written after the Old Anatolian Turkish period but which also has Old Anatolian Turkish language features and which was narrated by Ibn-i Abbas.
