Abstract :
One of the most prominent amongst oral and written literary texts is the story of Yûsuf and Züleyha. Although occidental societies handled this story from the perspective of the Torah, Islamic societies of the orient took the Quran as their source in delivering this story. In essence, because the story encapsulates universal values such as: justice, patience, truthfulness, love of siblings, pain of separation, love, morals and chastity among many others, it has been an important aspiration for many cultures. The story of Yûsuf and Züleyha has popularly been handled not only by Turkish language groups, but also by various Arabic and Farsi language groups that comprise the Islamic nations. The major difference between this story and the others such as Leylâ and Mecnun, Hüsrev and Şirin, etc., is that this story is religious in nature and it is well known that this story stemmed from the Torah. In this study, the story of Yûsuf and Züleyha published in 1827 by the English, printed in Arabic letters for missionary work is transliterated and the text’s translation is analyzed in terms of its phonetic and morphological properties and a grammatical dictionary is also provided.
