Abstract :
Ottoman sultans and princes both supported artistic activities and gave produces their own work in different branches of the arts in the midst of all the political and military events of the period. In particular their poetical talents are worthy of respect. Suleiman the Magnificent holds a significant position in terms of his own poetry and the number of poems he wrote amongst Ottoman Sultans who were also poets. Having succeeded in the field of poetry, which he had shown in the course of his forty-six-year reign, Kanuni became one of the poets who wrote the most poetry in the history of Turkish literature, writing more than four thousands poems. In this study, the poems of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent are evaluated in terms of their archaic elements and the studies on the Muhibbi Divan are thoroughly introduced. Those elements of Old Anatolian Turkish which are found in this Divan (published in 2016) containing all of this sultan‟s poems are determined at the affix, phoneme and vocabulary levels. The archaic elements, which were determined in the level of verbal adverb, the pronoun, the derivational and inflectional morphemes, indicative and subjunctive moods, phonemes and in the vocabulary of this Divan are emphasized. Couplets containing these archaic elements are presented and the changes in both sounds and words is shown.
