Abstract
Aim: In this study we aimed to determine the fasting blood glucose levels and the relationship between blood glucose levels and duration of alcohol administration who have alcohol dependence Materials and Methods: We intestigated in alcohol dependence inpatient records in Samsun Mental Hospital a retrospective way, between January 2009 and May 2010 . We excluded other drug abuse or dependence. Results: The present analyses consisted of 124 participants who have alcohol dependence. The mean ages of the patients were 46.0±9.5 years. All participans were male. Glucose levels were between 50-362 mg/dl. Hypoglycemia was 4 % (n:5), normoglycemia was 71.8 % (n:84), hyperglycemia was 24.2 % (n:30), and glucose level ≥126 mg/dl was 16.1 % (n:20). Pre-treatment fasting blood glucose levels were significantly (p:0.036) and positively associated (r:0.2) with administration of alcohol time (year). Conclusion: Clinicians should be evaluated carefully the glucose levels in alcohol dependence patients.
