Abstract :
In infants the diagnosis of scabies can be failed due to several atypical clinical presentations, secondary eczematization or impetiginization. Patients often use topical corticosteroids with a diagnosis of allergic contact dermatitis or atopic dermatitis due to the fact that scabies exhibits a different clinical presentation in infants and does not come to mind in the differential diagnosis. This situation leads to the formation of atypical clinical features in infantile scabies. A fourteen month old child, who was referred to our department with the diagnosis of mastocytosis due to the itchy lesions all over the body for six months, was diagnosed as scabies by the demonstration of mite itself on the biopsy. When scabies was misdiagnosed, unnecessary procedures or treatments can be applied to the patients. For this reason, dermatologists need to be careful in this regard.
