Drug interactions with narrow therapeutic index
Abstract :
Drugs with a narrow therapeutic index are frequently prescribed and used in the clinical setting. These drugs used alone or in combination with others cause relatively important problems. Combination therapy may lead to fatal adverse events secondary to increased plasma concentrations of interacting drugs by various mechanisms. Therefore, physicians prescribing drugs with narrow therapeutic indices should be aware of such interactions. The current review will provide information on limitations encountered during use of drugs with a narrow therapeutic index and mechanisms of various drug interactions.
