Abstract :
This study aims to explore the traditional wooden doors, focusing on their materials, construction, size, accessory, and ornamental features in respect to Mardin houses. In this framework, the characteristic qualities of 18 courtyard doors, 10 entrance doors and 17 indoors of 27 traditional houses in the city center of Mardin were identified through a systematic observation and the use of an inventory form. As a result, this research finds out that most of the traditional Mardin houses now have doors in line with modern production technologies instead of their original ones, that the remaining original doors were mostly made of walnut wood (93 %) and that all the three types of the doors possess the nailing technique in terms of their construction. There were single doors of 36 % and double doors of 64 %. Although wooden parts of the doors were usually in good condition, accessories of the courtyard doors of 77.8 %, entrance doors and interior doors of 100 % have been identified as required maintenance.
