Dynamic Analysis of Bar Mechanisms Activated By A Couple of Elliptical Spur Gears

In this study a comparative analysis of dynamic behaviours of mechanisms activated by a couple of spur gears and elliptical gears which are important members of non-circular gears carried out. Friction and mass in mechanisms were neglected and the equations of motion, velocity and acceleration was derivated by using complex numbers. By solving the equations in Excel, it was observed that there were significant differences in linear and angular velocity and acceleration changes in the mechanisms activated by a couple of elliptical spur gears. It was put forward that elliptic gears have a capacity to balance inertia forces in motion systems since the ∆ ivme =|∆ ivm max - ∆ ivme min| values were small and that elliptical gears can be used as a component of power transportation system in which irregular movements can be obtained without ceasing.
