Title Of Article :
Investigation of the Liquefaction Potential of Soils Using Cone Penetration Test (CPT)
Abstract :
This study includes the determination of the liquefaction potential developed for the residential area covered by alluvial deposits using CPT data (cone penetration test) under the effect of the probable earthquake effect in Saruhanlı/Manisa region. For this reason, a total of 28 CPT data were evaluated. Gediz Graben Fault Zone which has a length of 150 km, passes through at a distance of approximately 33 km in the south of Saruhanlı District. it was predicated to affect the region and create the biggest peak horizontal accelaration due to earthquake. In a probable earthquake effect, considering that Gediz Graben may be cracked 1/3 of the total length(150 km), was calculated an earthquake of moment magnitude as MW=7,1. Using attenuation relationships developed for Turkey a peak ground acceleration of 0.28g was calculated for the study site. According to the these results, the liquefaction analysis was performed using the CPT data and two locations were determined as liquefiable and one location less liquefiable, one location is the least liquefiable. The liquefaction hazard map was prepared according to these results.
