A Review on Implants Made of Titanium and Titanium Alloys

Abstract
Titanium and its alloys are widely used as implant materials. These alloys can be integrated with bone without any fibrous interface layer. Owing to various characteristic properties associated with titanium and titanium-based alloys, different types of dental and medical prostheses have been developed and are continuously developing. In this paper, general characteristics of titanium and titanium alloys, types of applications, the surface/interface characteristics of implants and various fabrication techniques of implants have been covered. In this context, the researches on titanium and its alloys done in the recent years were compiled and some suggestions were made about the future clinical studies.
