The Leisure Places in the Ramadan Nights in the Odunpazarı Houses
Abstract :
In this study, the fact that how people spend the evenings and nights during the Ramadan Month Muslims fast in the space known as the Odunpazari Houses (Odunpazarı Evleri) in Odunpazari, the central district of Eskişehir, in 2013 is handled in the perspective of the sociology of leisure time. The subject is limited with the leisure places open to public in Odunpazari Houses. The tea houses, cafes, coffeehouses, and nargile houses (hubbly-bubbly or hookah houses), etc. were identified as the leisure time places striking in the Odunpazarı Houses. The purpose of this study is to understand how people evaluate and spend their leisure time at Ramadan nights in the Odunpazari Houses. The work was conducted with participant observation and interview techniques.
