Abstract :
Probiotics are live microbial organisms that beneficially affect the host’s health by improving the intestinal balance. Probiotics have been primarily used to establish normal intestinal flora to prevent or minimize the disturbances caused by enteric pathogens and secondarily to substitute the functions of antibiotics in animals. Bacillus coagulans is a gram-positive bacterium, sharing characteristics common to the genera Bacillus (spore forming) and Lactobacillus (lactic acidproduction). B. coagulans is a lactic acid producing and spore forming probiotic bacteria. As a feed additive, it has remarkable effects on growth promotion of animals (poultry, pigs, etc.) through the increase of digestibility and prevention of disease caused by infectious microbial flora, Escherichia coli and Staphylococci in intestine.
