Abstract :
This study aims to detect impacts of various organic additives on lime binders and to obtain results about their usability during protective and repair works of traditional structures. In this scope, lime mortars are prepared in two different mixture rates by 6 different organic additives including milk, egg white, egg yolk, root beer, brown sugar and sugar cane juice; ultra sound speeds of these mortars are measured in different periods and mechanical tests are applied at the end of 28 days. Fenolfatalein tests and XRD analysis is applied on mortar samples remained after mechanical tests as a result of which carbonization and chemical impacts of organic additives on lime are evaluated. According to the mechanical tests, it is identified that egg white and yolk have positive impact on mechanical strength of lime mortars and this impact relatively decreases on the basis of increasing mixture rate; whereas, other additives have retarding effect.
