Abstract :
This particular work focuses on the “foreign terminology” issues dealt in the secondary education/juniorhigh level. Out of 10 biology textbook; designed for the secondary educational level; 627 foreign termswere extracted, meaning and composition of such terms, the level of comprehension of them by the pupilsare evaluated through an achievement test (test of biology terminology). Research sampling had beenconducted within the 2007-2008 fall semester, among the science major sophomore and junior studentsenrolled to Alparslan Anadolu High School, Atatürk Anadolu High School, Gazi Çiftliği High School andMimar Sinan High School in Ankara (totaling 762 subjects). For statistical analysis, SPSS program hadbeen utilized; frequency (f) and percentages (%) were measured to the responds given to the testquestions by the students. Result of the statistical analysis, among the sophomore students averagepercent of achievement calculated was 35,8%, junior class students’ average percent of achievement was46,9%. Among the Anadolu high school students; sophomore class pupils’ average percent ofachievement was 58,2%, junior class students’ were 70,4%. It has been analyzed that the overallpercentage of achievement was considerably low. Achievement score of the Anadolu High Schoolstudents were higher than the State high school students. It has been stated that studentsexperienced problems on perceiving, comprehending and utilizing the biological terms; such conditionare among the factors that has an adverse affect on the level of achievement of students.
