Title Of Article :
DETERMINING THE GEOMETRIC THINKING LEVELS OF PRE-SERVICE ELEMENTARY MATHEMATICS TEACHERS
Abstract :
The purpose of this research was to determine the relationship between pre-service elementary mathematics teachers’ geometric thinking levels and some demographic variables. For this purpose Van Hiele Geometric Thinking Test was applied to 128 pre-service elementary mathematics teachers from two different universities. The form including demographic variables was given to the pre-service teachers with the test. The data collected were analyzed by means of SPSS. The study revealed that pre-service elementary mathematics teachers were mostly at the 3rd level in the geometry test scale. There was a positive but not statistically significant relationship between age and geometric thinking level, and also between grade point averages and geometric thinking level. There was no relationship between gender and geometric thinking level. There was a meaningful difference between students’ willingness to participate in the departments and geometric thinking levels on the behalf of students’ willingness.
