Abstract :
The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of the use of three-dimensional visual materials in the unit of Structure and Properties of Substance taught in the 8th grade upon academic success of students and their attitudes toward Science and Technology Lesson. Quasi-experimental pattern with pretest-posttest control group was used in the study. The study group consisted of 67 students who study at a secondary school in Ankara in the school year of 2012-2013. The lessons were taught in both groups by the respective class teachers for a period of 9 weeks. The research data was gathered by using an “Academic Achievement Test” and an “Attitude towards Science and Technology Scale”. As a result of the study, it was determined that the use of visual materials in the unit of Structure and Properties of Substance significantly affected the academic success of students. Besides, the development in the success level was observed to be preserved even three months after completing the study. As a result of the study, it was also determined that students in both the control and the experimental group had increased the levels of attitudes toward Science and Technology Lesson. However, the difference between the attitudes of students in the control and the experimental group toward Science and Technology Lesson was not significant.
