RECRUITING OFFICES IN THE TURKISH INDEPENDENCE WAR AND KİLİS RECRUITING OFFICE
Abstract :
The recruiting offices have carried out very important roles since the date of their foundations. These offices have continuously provided soldiers to the military troops with the recruitment and mobilization laws of the time in question. In this process, they have governed very well the human resources at their disposal and they have used the power and authority given by the current legislation, while they have become an important source of motivation by using the notion of “sanctity of military service”.On the other hand, recruiting offices have been act as a bridge between families of soldiers and their troops. The young people who have been about to enlist have been given first information about the military service, their troops, general condition of the war and have been oriented about their duties in these recruiting offices. While the head of the recruiting office were dealing with the soldiers and their fathers, his wife guided their mothers and wives.During Turkish Independence War, Representative Committee gave the recruiting offices of the southern front the task of forming a national army. According to this order, each recruiting office formed a battalion and the head of recruiting office took the responsibility of becoming the battalion commander, with the officers of the recruiting office becoming the company commanders. The unfilled positions were filled by the reserve personnel through the mobilization acts. The personnel of Kilis Recruiting Office fulfilled these duties properly. Forming a battalion in Turkish Independence War, Kilis Recruiting Office performed militia activities heroically within the asymmetrical warfare principles under the command of Kilis national forces.
