The Integration of the Grammar and Writing Lessons under the Aspect of Creative Writing in the First Academic Year of the German Teacher Education
Abstract :
A good knowledge of grammar is regarded as an essential component of teaching and learning German. Integrating teaching German with teaching writing can contribute to students’ knowledge of grammar and facilitate their writing skills. Creative writing is used very extensively in foreign language education. Therefore, it can also be integrated to grammar lessons. The purpose of this study is to explore ways of exploiting lyrics, such as poems in the process of teaching grammar to first year Turkish student teachers of German. Their attention is drawn to various grammatical components which they are already familiar with. They are guided to do a brainstorming about the use of these language features within the given context. Following this they are encouraged to write about the literary text. This way, student teachers experience the joy of creative writing by using familiar grammatical structures.
