The Relationship between Democratic Values of Prospective Teachers and Their Views about Pupil Control Ideologies

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to determine the prospective teachers’ views about democratic values and pupil control ideologies. The study also attempted to determine the relationship between democratic values and pupil control ideologies. 493 prospective teachers were included in the sample of the survey model research. The data obtained from the study was gathered using “Democratic Values Scales” and “Pupil Control Ideology Scale”. Descriptive statistics, t-test, and pearson correlation analysis are used in data analysis. According to the findings, prospective teachers’ view about custodial pupil control ideology is no very high. However prospective teachers have highest average in democratic values. The participants’ views do not vary according to educational program. There were no relationships between the prospective teachers’ views about democratic values, rights of education, and solidarity and pupil control ideology. But, there is a low, and negative relationship between the participants’ views about pupil control ideologies and freedom.
