Abstract :
Changes and developments in music culture from pre-Republic period to present have influenced the repertory of music education. It is well-known that serious and profound studies were carried out especially during the Republic period on nursery rhymes thought to have a significant place in the child’s individual, social, cultural and educational development. However, grasping the process better and transferring it to present are possible by reviewing written works and resources, interviewing those knowledgeable on the subject, etc. Thus, Turkish nursery rhymes repertory can be developed on more solid basis. It is also another fact that using different writing types in Turkish culture from time to time has been a challenge in transferring the written culture to the future generations. Cemil Rasim’s book “Nursery Rhymes for Primary Schools” was written in 1927 before switching to Latin alphabet; therefore, it can shed light on the music education philosophy of the period and approaches on nursery rhymes. The research was carried out to interpret the tonal-modal structures, articulation, speed and nuance terms, subjects, composing and polyphonic characteristics of the nursery rhymes in the book through analyses; to reveal and present a precious book- out of print, not having been used for a long time and existing in almost no libraries- to whom it may concern. This descriptive study based on survey model is hoped to contribute to musical pedagogy and studies on educational music composing.
